Abstract
The rise of mobile technologies has revolutionized the way businesses operate, especially in emerging markets like India. With the increasing adoption of smartphones and internet connectivity, M-Commerce (Mobile Commerce) is gaining popularity among consumers as a convenient means of shopping. This trend presents both challenges and opportunities for small businesses in India. The purpose of this study is to examine the challenges faced by small businesses in adopting M-Commerce platforms in India, as well as to explore the potential opportunities available to them. The research utilizes a mixed-methods approach, including both qualitative and quantitative methods, to gather data from various sources. The findings reveal that one of the main challenges for small businesses in adopting M-Commerce platforms is the lack of technological expertise and resources. Many traditional brick-and-mortar stores struggle with creating an online presence and operating a mobile app or website. This result in limited access to new customers, reduced sales, and ultimately puts them at a disadvantage compared to larger established retailers. Additionally; another major challenge is adapting their business models to suit the unique characteristics of M-Commerce platforms. Unlike physical stores where customers can physically browse products and interact with staff, M-Commerce requires a different approach such as optimizing websites or apps for smaller screens and creating user-friendly interfaces. By understanding the challenges and opportunities presented by M-Commerce, small businesses can effectively navigate this transformative shift and capitalize on the vast potential it offers.
